Group Training is an arrangement where apprentices and trainees are employed under a training contract by the Group Training Organisation (GTO), which manages the quality of their training and provides pastoral care while they are placed with host employers. Capricornia Training Company Ltd (CTC) is a GTO employing apprentices and trainees under the Federal Government’s Australian Apprenticeship scheme. GTO’s have earned wide acclaim throughout Australia and now employ more than 45,000 apprentices and trainees. In fact, GTO’s are currently working with more than 35,000 enterprises nation wide.

CTC recruits apprentices and trainees from school leavers, pre-vocational students, jobseekers and existing employees. Applicants undergo assessment to ensure they have the commitment and aptitude to do the job.. Successful applicants are employed and registered as apprentices or trainees with CTC.  CTC will provide mentoring and personal support through its Apprentice Services Officers and Management.

When placed with the host employer, apprentices and trainees will respond directly to the supervision and instruction of their host employer. The placement period is negotiated between the parties. In some cases apprentices or trainees may stay with the host employer for the full period of the apprenticeship or traineeship; in others, they may be rotated to one or more host employers for further skills development where the host employer’s capacity to train is specific, for budget purposes, or where the host employer has irregular workloads.

During the time the apprentice or trainee is hosted out to the employer, CTC send weekly invoices which include the following costs:

  • Pay award based wages
  • Personal leave
  • Annual leave and leave loading
  • Public holidays
  • Rostered days off
  • Workers compensation
  • Superannuation
  • PAYG tax
  • Issuing PAYG summaries
  • TAFE Enrolment

The host employer approves the apprentice’s or trainee’s annual leave in accordance with their requirements.
