How do we work?Luke Sciani 2.jpg

  • Apprentices are employed by CTC through a formal process of job advertisements, applications, interviews and assessment for a trade aptitude.
  • Apprentices are then placed (hired to) with host businesses for an agreed period. CTC has a large number of employers – ranging from small to medium-sized to large businesses - who want to hire our apprentices and to train them in the chosen trade.
  • Apprentices attend formal training throughout the apprenticeship period, generally at a TAFE facility, with the remainder of the time working within the host business, where receiving on-the-job work matched to the accredited qualification
  • Our Apprentice Services Officers visit each workplace on a regular basis to monitor progress, safe work practices and the on-the-job training being provided and to discuss and resolve any other issues identified
  • We provide a full support mechanism for all our apprentices which can
include mentoring on their training. We also assist with arrangements for off-the-job courses and check on progress with training providers.

If work with your “Host Employer” runs out we rotate you to another employer to continue your trade training.

Our Apprentice Services Officers carry out regular workplace monitoring visits, including safety checks, performance, counselling and personal support. Apprentice Services Officers make sure apprentices are receiving adequate training and are engaging in safe work practices.

We handle all the paperwork and records for the apprentices and manage the payroll function as well as all other statutory employment obligations.

Apprenticeship FAQ's

What is a Group Training Company?
A group training company is a business that employs apprentices, and then places them with one or more host trainers to undertake their apprenticeship.

If I attend RTO/TAFE one day a week, will I then be paid for four days only?
No! You will be paid for attending RTO/TAFE provided you present your attendance card signed by your RTO/TAFE teacher to your host employer immediately after having attended RTO/TAFE.

What should I do if I am not happy in the company where I have been placed for my training?
Your first line of action would be to discuss the situation with the workshop manager or, if this is not possible due to breakdown in communications, contact your Apprentice Services Officer.

How long is a standard apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship period is becoming more flexible generally taking up to four years. It is possible with high performance at TAFE and success in the workplace to gain an early completion.

Do I have to go to TAFE or any other REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION (RTO)?
Yes! Depending on the training you undertake, you will have to attend either day or block training week during your apprenticeship.

Do I have to buy tools straight away?
Under a Federal Government initiative, most apprenticeship trades will receive an $800 tool voucher after the completion of the probationary period. It is advisable to only purchase initial tools until this time, however, if you choose to do so, that is entirely up to you.
